About Paul Lyons
Paul Lyons lives in Canberra working with the Australian National University (ANU) and University of Canberra (UC) to provide academic literacy support for international students, including English for Academic Purposes (EAP) and English Language Intensive Courses for Overseas Students (ELICOS). This includes teaching Bachelor subjects in International Relations and Research Methods. Paul also teaches ELICOS at the University of Melbourne, Hawthorn College. Paul is currently a PhD candidate conducting research in pragmalinguistics for Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL). He also has a Master’s Degree in TESOL and Foreign Language Teaching (TESOL/FLT), from the University of Canberra, a Certificate IV in Training and Assessment, and a Bachelor of Arts, Asian Studies from Flinders University. Paul’s foreign language qualifications include Mandarin Chinese, Thai, Indonesian and Tok Pisin. Paul has experience in a wide range of disciplines from working with complex multi-discipline teams, and he brings his experience as an Information Manager and Analyst to the production, publishing, and editing field. With over 25 years’ experience working across government and military in international engagement activities, he brings a diverse perspective to his work in academia and teaching. Paul’s experience also includes many hours as a teacher in Adult Migrant English Programs (AMEP), which enhances his empathy for learners of English as a Second Language from diverse ethnic and linguistic backgrounds. As a specialist teacher and lecturer in English as a Second Language (ESL/EAP/ESP), Paul Lyons can provide expert academic support for international students.
